no more google photos for me
it's a convoluted method but for now, it's working and i'm happy with how simple it is. since 2018, i've been using google photos religiously and set up a clean system to categorise my gallery - so it's a blessing that i've got such an easy alternative now that keeps everything exactly how i organised it.
been using Google Takeout to download all of my entire library on google photos. for some reason, google separates the metadata of every photo and video on a separate json file but there's this sick fucking software that merges (almost) the data so that your photos can be in perfect chronological order. shoutout to the guy who made it.
so now, i've got all my precious memories stored on my pc, and i'll hopefully stick to a routine of syncing it with my external hard drive. the new alternative is to use localsend to move over any new pics from my phone to my pc instead of evil google photos. can't vouch for how private or secure localsend actually is but it works for me in the meantime.
